Veronica Blake of Placer Community Foundation and Stacy Caldwell of Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation met with the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee Executive Director in Sacramento on May 2 to advocate for changes to the tax credit regulations that support our ability to hold land for affordable housing. The goal, from the Community Foundation perspective, is to have land donations be able to qualify for the tie breaker points in the tax credit allocations. One small step for moving housing forward in our regions.

CREATE DECENT HOMES AT REASONABLE COSTS FOR ALL IN PLACER COUNTY
Nearly 42% of Placer County households are strapped by housing costs. Whether renting or buying, families are getting priced out of our communities. It’s our firefighters, schoolteachers, bank tellers and trade workers. They are us, our neighbors and vital to the stability of our workforce and economy.
We are facing a serious gap in housing. According to the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), Placer County needs 21,000+ new units of attainable housing by 2021. But as of the most recent County Housing Needs Assessment Progress Report, less than 4% of these units have been built.
Our economy depends on a strong, local workforce. When we support accessible housing, we’re helping to secure the economy by:
*Retaining and attracting skilled, local workers
*Increasing buying power of local residents
*Improving the health of our community
*Creating a family friendly environment
